Mary Catherine Yen
I believe each person deserves to feel understood, heard, and supported. Life can feel overwhelming at times, and you do not have to navigate it alone. I hope to provide a space where we can be curious together, deepen understanding, and move toward growth and healing. I offer a warm, relational, and client-centred approach to therapy.
I work with individuals facing stress, relationship challenges, caregiving demands, attachment concerns, adoption-related experiences, and the many complexities of life transitions and parenting. I have a special interest in supporting parents of young children, preteens, and teens, including families raising children with disabilities or learning differences.
As a parent of four teenage and young adult children, and as a volunteer with families in crisis, I understand that parenting can bring unexpected stress, worry, and self-doubt. I believe that parents are often the most influential people in a child’s life, and sometimes parents need a steady, compassionate place to process concerns and feel supported themselves.
Together, we can explore unique challenges you or your family might face, such as developmental delays, executive functioning difficulties, dyslexia, vision or hearing issues, navigating school or medical systems, caregiver burnout, family and life transitions, attachment issues, adoption complexities, birth family relationships, and multicultural family dynamics. I aim to create a therapeutic relationship in which your unique story—with all its joys and struggles—can be honoured, and healing can unfold over time.
I am a student therapist under supervision at the Toronto Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling Education and a member of the Ontario College of Teachers.
Outside of my work, you can often find me at the gym, walking, reading, travelling, or spending time with my family.
I offer low-cost therapy to clients and a sliding scale based on need.
It is important to find the right relational fit in therapy. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can see whether working together fits with your needs.
